Daylight Bulbs for ME Brains
I’ve been using daylight bulbs for reading for a few years now because I prefer them. They seem to make my brain feel calmer and more rested. But as money gets tighter I’ve been wondering: is this a silly fad of mine?
Then I read neurologist Stavia Blunt’s comments in the newsletter. She said that our brains need “full spectrum daylight...for the pineal gland to work and produce melatonin which affects other hormones. If it doesn’t work our chemistry is all over the place.”
Well, sounds as if I was right all along!
I buy my daylight bulbs from a woman in Scotland who also sells natural remedies for animals. Most important for us sensitive types, her daylight bulbs are the old fashioned incandescent kind, the ones now withdrawn from Tesco, B&Q etc.
Why incandescent? Because fluorescent bulbs have long been known to cause problems for office workers, and the new energy saving ones aren’t any better - the Migraine Society is already complaining about them!
Incandescent daylight bulbs are available from Hilda Rodger at: Woodside Cottage, Newton of Balcanquhal, Glenfarg, Perthshire,
