Leisha's Consultation with Dr Perrin

The Perrin Technique is a holistic, non-invasive therapy developed by Dr. Raymond Perrin. It combines lymphatic drainage and osteopathic methods to improve the flow of toxins from the brain and restore balance in the sympathetic nervous system, alongside supplements and changes to diet. Leisha consulted the man himself. Leisha’s husband Stuart tells us more:

My wife Leisha has had ME since early 2023. Like many families, we did our research on possible treatments with the mindset that we will try anything and everything that could help. Leisha now paces with the Visible armband and app, used alongside other treatments such as supplements, LDN for pain management, diet changes and cupping therapy.

In mid-2024, Leisha started the Perrin Technique with a practitioner in Richmond, Kosta Kolimechkov. Treatment is progressing well, with significant improvements in her symptoms including increase in energy and reduction of pain. To start with, Leisha was attending weekly; as symptoms have improved she has extended to every 3 weeks, alongside a home routine. Early in the treatment, Kosta suggested that we visit Dr Perrin himself to seek further advice on what we can do based on his experience.

Dr Perrin is based in Manchester, however he visits his Bushey clinic once a month. In February we attended a one-hour appointment for a discussion and chance to ask questions. Dr Perrin asked about Leisha’s condition, medical history and family background, including what close family did for work and what life was like before ME. Dr Perrin was open to answering our list of questions, including other possible treatments we had read about online, why certain symptoms were improving and not others, what other supplements to try and what type of exercise may be possible.

Heavy Metal Poisoning?

Dr Perrin suggested that Leisha may be suffering from heavy metal poisoning, as a close relative was a metalworker and would have taken home tiny fragments of metal each day. There is not a blood test for this, so he tested by sticking magnets to Leisha’s arm, forehead and back, indicating the presence of metals, while the same magnets did not stick to my forehead or back. Dr Perrin prescribed a 6-month regimen of chlorella, psyllium husks and activated charcoal as a heavy metal detox. Leisha felt quite nauseous for the first month, which we hope was a side effect of detoxification indicating that the regimen is working; she has felt fine since. We bought some small magnets to keep testing, and currently they are still sticking, although we are only halfway through the treatment.

Far infrared sauna blanket

Dr Perrin also recommended a far infrared sauna blanket for pain. Unlike a normal sauna, these blankets don’t warm the air but transfer heat directly into your body, providing benefits at lower temperatures with less likelihood of sweating. We purchased the Koanna blanket and Leisha was using it every day for 20 minutes up until the recent warmer weather. Body pain was completely gone while using the blanket, and although it was returning afterwards, it does help her manage pain. We opted to pay a little more for a Zero EMF blanket to avoid electric and magnetic fields. Although there is little evidence on the impact of EMF, we wanted peace of mind.

Other recommendations

Another suggestion Dr Perrin gave was to use a NuroSym. We purchased one with a 30-day trial but returned it as Leisha did not feel any benefit. He also suggested getting as much fresh air as possible, which we are trying to do. As far as exercise is concerned, Dr Perrin said that it is important not to overdo it, always doing a bit less than you feel capable of. As Leisha’s energy has been building, she has increased her walking to 5k steps a day and 1-2 hydrotherapy sessions a week. Dr Perrin also said that backstroke swimming is ok, but recommended avoiding other strokes. Gentle pilates is also fine, provided it doesn’t hurt and she is not overstretching. These will be the next activities to add as her recovery continues.

Overall, our journey with the Perrin Technique has been positive and the visit to see Dr Perrin was insightful and worthwhile. Leisha remains hopeful and committed to the Perrin Technique,
