Visible - 'Pacing Made Simple'

Visible isn’t a cure for ME or LC, in just the same way a pair of glasses don’t cure eyesight issues. But many people have found that Visible can help them to pace effectively.

We have 14 Visible armbands kindly donated by Visible Health, via AfME.

Join our Visible Project and try Visible for just £5 a month for up to 3 months.

If you’ve thought about trying a Visible armband, but

  • been wary of the cost of the band or the ongoing membership cost?

  • not been sure it would work in your life?

  • not got around to it?

This offer is open to any group member who hasn’t tried Visible.

We prioritise members in receipt of benefits, but any member who would like to try Visible will have a chance to do so.

  • A Visible 1.0 will be delivered to your door for free, for you to use for up to 3-months.

  •  We’ll subsidise your Visible membership so it will cost you just £5 a month to try it

How can Visible help?

We all know the importance of pacing, but it’s not straightforward. It’s not easy to know when you’re doing it effectively. Visible can help you find your personal heart-rate exertion zones. A member of our group reported going from frequent crashes to none for months. ‘In the last six months there hasn’t been a day I couldn’t get our of bed’.

Visible may help you identify things in your life which use a surprising amount of your energy, so that you can plan alternatives. A shower stool, sitting on a chair while you cook, carrying something to sit on while you’re out and about so that you can rest for a few minutes if you’ve gone into your exertion zone? Find out whether any of these, or anything else, could help you use less energy so you have more for other things you want to do.

Newly ill?

Pacing effectively could give your body a chance to recover if it can. And it could help you avoid overdoing things, triggering crashes and potentially making your illness worse.  Visible can take the calculations out of pacing your activity and give you confidence that you’re doing it as well as you can.

Been ill for years?

You probably feel you know all about pacing. Laura, our Acting Chair says: "When I first tried Visible, I’d had ME for 11-years. I thought I’d been pacing for a decade. I discovered that there were things I was doing without realising how much energy they were taking. Visible has helped me to manage the overall impact of activities on my energy level."

Family or work commitments?

Some of us can’t just stop and rest whenever we're in overexertion. Some people with ME have shown family members their Visible and this helped them better understand the illness and ways they could help. Some have shown it to their managers and used it to gain accommodations at work that made remaining in or returning to work more possible.

Your doctor or health professionals find it hard to understand your illness?

Some people in our group have shown Visible data to their health professionals, helping them to understand the impact of the illness.

You need to claim benefits?

Some R,K & WL ME Group members have submitted reports generated from their Visible data as part of their health information in benefit claims and appeals.

You prefer to listen to your body?

Some people feel they’d prefer not to rely on technology. If this is you, two or three months with Visible may help you better understand your activity boundaries, the things you can do or avoid to pace even more effectively. You might then put Visible aside, but as you listen to your body, maybe you might find you can understand what its telling you just a little bit better.

What if worrying about how well you’re pacing makes you anxious?

Some people find using Visible stressful, find themselves checking it every 2 minutes, worrying about their ‘scores’. If this happens to you, you can leave it off for a while and go back to it. Or if you take part in our Visible Project, just return it to us. It's not right for everyone.
